Duh.

The dairy council is finally being required to quit lying to the American public. It's about time. The dairy council has long been the funders of nutrition guidelines (look at old promotional posters from elementary schools and you'll always see "Published by the American Dairy Council" at the bottom which makes as much sense as McDonald's sponsoring education programs in elementary schools (How many Big Macs can Jane buy with her $3.00 allowance?) which really happens by the way.

Frankly, when I became vegan and gave up dairy I lost weight (although as my father is fond of saying...as long as beer and fries are vegan she'll look the way she does...thanks dad). And please don't comment with "I could NEVER give up cheese!" It's probably the most annoying (and most frequent) comments vegans hear besides "How do you get your protein?"

That link went to an ad. What's the scoop on what they can't do now? Advertise to kids at school? That will be good progress, finally! Except for all the schools with out dated books and suplies.. but it's a start, if that's what the news is...

Do you eat any of the vegan cheeses? Are there any good ones out there? I've tried a few and couldn't stand the texture...

Oh yeah, I've seen those ad's about eating more dairy to lose weight. Some people will say anything to make money.
kbeeps, the best cheese of all is the Tofutti 'better than cream cheese' Trader Joes has it other places do too. for melty slicable vegan cheese, Follow your heart makes 'vegan gormet' in different flavors, good for pizza, nachos...and tofutti makes slices that are good for sandwiches.

Yeah, you pretty much have to get over cheese to be vegan. And the other key for veg alternatives is giving up the real thing for awhile. Going directly from "real" cheese to "fake" cheese is a hard thing to do. Personally I hate all the fake stuff with few exceptions. The Tofutti cream cheese and sour cream are fantastic alternatives (as well as the Tofutti cutie ice cream sandwiches). Even my mom will eat all three of those, which is the bar I use to measure because she isn't very open to "alternative" foods. My favorite is a mac and cheese made with a nutritional yeast (not brewer's yeast) cheese sauce. Very, very good.
